Title: Per-file ACLs in AFS

Abstract:

In AFS, Access control lists (ACLs) can only be applied at the directory level - a limitation that most other modern filesystems don?t have.

This talk will present the current status of a project to add this functionality to the AFS protocol and implement it within OpenAFS. It will discuss protocol and semantics considerations, backwards compatibility with existing clients and servers, and implementation issues and choices. Some thoughts on the process of interacting with the AFS and OpenAFS communities to bring new features to life will also be shared.

Depending on the progress, a working prototype will be available for demonstration.
