Speaker Title
Kristen J. Webb, Teradactyl Corporation Providing a Network Management Data Protocol (NDMP) interface for the Andrew File System (AFS)
NDMP has been widely accepted by hardware and software vendors as a common architecture for the way heterogeneous file servers on a network are backed up. The protocol provides for a wide variety of backup and recovery features that go beyond what most commercial and free software solutions provide today for AFS. An NDMP implementation for AFS would allow backup and recovery operations to be integrated into existing centralized backup applications. This talk overviews the requirements necessary to implement an NDMP solution for AFS. Topics include an introduction to NDMP, comparison of the NDMP architecture to existing AFS data management methods, requirements for an AFS/NDMP implementation, and strengths and weakness of an NDMP solution.
