Tutorials and Workshop take place in at University of Michigan.

Thursday 15 June

Speaker Title
Simon Wilkinson, University of Edinburgh If It Moves, Kerberize It!
The School of Informatics has a goal of only deploying services supporting Kerberos authentication within its network. I'll discuss the implications of this goal on software and protocol selection, and its benefits and disadvantages for both users and adminstrators.
I'll talk about the work we've done on adding Kerberos support to a wide variety of open source packages. We'll discuss the general issues involved in adding such support with a variety of protocols, and the social issues of getting the code accepted upstream. As specifc case studies, we'll look at the Kerberos support in OpenSSH, Gaim, Jabberd2 and Thunderbird, and discuss the political and technical issues involved in adding the code in each of those cases.
